The 6th ‘Samsung Youth SW Academy’: Students Graduate Program

Samsung has been fostering a new age of developers and programmers for Samsung Software Academy for Youth (SSAFY) since 2018 by enrolling students.

This program is sponsored by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.SSAFY is a corporate social responsibility program launched by Samsung to expand the domestic IT ecosystem and enhance the competitiveness of young jobseekers, according to local media.

It started recruiting trainees at SSAFY for the second half of 2022 from May 2 to May 16 for a one-year software training course on five campuses nationwide from July.

From 500 in December 2018 to the first half of this year’s program, trainees were expanded to 1,150. Samsung’s software developers also participate in the training course as mentors.

Currently, 3,678 people completed the course by the 6th semester, of which 2,770 were employed, showing a 75% employment rate.

These graduates found a career in IT and financial sectors, including Samsung Electronics, Kakao, Naver, LG U+, Lotte Information & Communication, Shinsegae I&C, Hyundai Autoever, Hyundai Mobis, KB Kookmin Bank, Shinhan Bank, and NH Nonghyup Bank. This figure reached 730. The companies which seek practical talent are about 120, including Shinhan Bank, Woori Bank, Hyundai Autoever, and Delivery Hero Korea.

This 6th SSAFY graduation ceremony was attended by Vice Minister Kwon Ki-Seop of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, People’s Strength Rep, including Yoon Ju-Kyung of Democratic Party Rep., and about 400 graduates from five campuses nationwide, including Seoul, Daejeon, Gwangju, Gumi, and Buul-Gyeongthrough online participation.

IT is an excellent program by a private sector company, and other companies from different regions of the world could take inspiration from this to shape a more promised future for the world.
