Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 To Support eSIM and Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS)
Recently, the Samsung Galaxy Z series received an OTA update in the USA that enables the device’s long-awaited built-in eSIM, dual sim, and dual standby DSDS functionality.
The update was of size 1107.14 MB and was released for T-Mobile Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, which come with firmware build no. F926USQU1DVEE and F711USQU2DVEE, respectively.
While the Unlocked variants of Galaxy Z fold 3 & Galaxy Z flip 3 received firmware updates with versions F926U1UEU1DVEE and F711U1UEU2DVEE, respectively.
This software update will likely expand to other network carriers soon.
According to the Changelog and user-posted screenshots, this OTA rollout also brings several camera features of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, as we have seen in other regions for the clamshell-designed flip and fold smartphones. This update will also include the June 2022 security patch.
Following are the changes that this update brings :
Inbuilt hardware functionality activation:
- eSIM support
- Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) support
eSIM: Users need either a carrier’s app or a QR Code to use this function. The “eSIM” is an embedded SIM card with no physical SIM cards. No physical swapping is required.eSIM is available from selected carriers worldwide. AT&T, T-Mobile USA, and Verizon Wireless support eSIM functionality for the US.
Dual-SIM: Users can install two separate SIM cards into their phones.
Dual-SIM Dual Standby: This enables the user to choose which of those two SIMs can place and receive calls while another is on standby.
Camera:
- The Night portrait feature has been enhanced.
- The telephoto lens is supported in Pro mode.
- The ‘Auto framing’ feature is supported in video mode and some video call apps.
- The quality of pictures taken with social or camera apps downloaded from the application store has been improved.
Security & Privacy:.
The security of the device has been improved.
Other than this, according to the Changelog, the Overall stability of the device has been improved with this patch. It also includes security and privacy issues that are not limited to. It can also include general bug fixes, device stability improvements, and overall system stability.
This functionality is available in some other regions of the world already, and we know this series will enjoy major updates for OS and UI as per Samsung’s $-Year Software Update Policy.
