Enjoy the benefit of three years. On the day of the official release of its new folding smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, specifically the fourth generation, Samsung can only accomplish this.
Since Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, the first truly foldable smartphone with widespread commercial distribution, was introduced to the market in the middle of 2019. Z Flip will soon be added to the list with a smaller form factor.
It is probably for this reason, in addition to the attempt not to raise an already very high price in a 2022 of “fire”, that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is absolutely in the name of continuity. A product that at first glance is difficult to distinguish from the previous year’s model, but which still has its own significant updates.

As you can see, it is therefore once again a true premium smartphone that maintains some of the most appreciated features of previous generations, such as a huge internal screen that makes it compete with the tablet world, support for the S Pen, waterproofing, wireless charging support and the camera under the front display.
Starting from the latter, the company has increased the pixel density above the sensor thus making the display yield even better, while leaving the sensor for selfies and video calls by only 4 megapixels. Overall, the format of the product changes, both from closed and open, is a little wider and slightly lower, especially we believe in improving the convenience of use of the external screen, one of the critical issues of the previous model. From our quick preview test it’s hard to tell if there’s really an appreciable difference in everyday use. The first impression would push us to say the opposite.
From a hardware point of view, the real novelty is certainly the new optically stabilized 50-megapixel ƒ/1.8 main sensor, inherited from the S22 family. We will find out in the review if it keeps its promises in terms of yield.
All the other news told by Samsung are software and therefore we cannot yet express ourselves on the rendering of the fold of the display, one of the most popular questions by our readers. From our brief test, however, we can say that we immediately noticed a fluidity that we had not noticed on previous models. We therefore have good hopes for the overall performance of this new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which we have already appreciated on other models as well.
