In celebration of Earth Day, the South Korean firm Samsung Electronics launches a waste mobile phone collection campaign from 17th April to 12th May 2023. This campaign is a result of Samsung’s collaboration with Mintit, an ICT platform company. It is not the first time Samsung is doing something in favor of the environment; instead, the company always takes steps in this way. Now, let’s move on to our main topic.

Notably, in this campaign, 10 affiliates are participating, including Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS, Samsung C&T, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Samsung Biologics. The campaign basically targets Samsung’s employees that can return products by using Mintit ATMs all over the nation. All they have to do is enter their name and phone number in advance on the waste cell phone collection campaign site.

Informatively, to make the campaign successful, the company has also set up some rewards. Those employees who have participated in this campaign will get some prizes and carbon-neutral points. These prizes will be distributed through a lottery. Notably, Samsung has started to hold this campaign every year since 2015. The motive of this campaign is environmental protection and resource recycling.

It’s now been eight years since this campaign was being held, and the company has collected 64,330 mobile phones, out of which 12,675 have been collected in the last year alone. Asides from the campaign being held for the employees, Samsung is also organizing a campaign for customers in 37 nations, including India and the United States. Customers will be able to deposit waste mobile in Samsung service centers.

Last year, Samsung Electronics announced the “New Environmental Management Strategy,” which aims to extend the waste product collection system to all the regions of 180 countries where Samsung Electronics products are sold by 2030. All of these are just a part of Samsung’s Galaxy for the Planet initiative.
