Samsung announced it has started mass production of the industry’s most powerful PC SSD for AI applications.
Samsung Electronics is actively setting up to maintain its world-leader legacy in advanced memory technology. It has begun the mass production for PM9E1, a PCIe 5.0 SSD with the industry’s highest performance and largest capacity.
The PM9E1 is built on its in-house 5-nm-based controller and eight-generation V-NAND (V8) technology. Surely it will deliver powerful performance and enhanced power efficiency, which lead to an optimal solution for on-device AI PCs.
YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, stated, “In the rapidly growing on-device AI era, Samsung’s PM9E1 will offer a robust foundation for global customers to effectively plan their AI portfolios.”
The PM9E1 has up to 14.5 GB/s sequential read speed and 13 GB/s write speed. This powerful performance leads to a faster data transfer even with data-intensive AI applications, permitting a 14GB larger language model (LLM) to be transferred from the SSD to DRAM just within a second.
It is available in four storage variants, including 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, and the industry’s largest capacity of 4TB. The significantly upgraded power efficiency of over 50% permits for long-lasting battery life, which is ideal for on-device AI applications.
Samsung is looking forward to expanding its advanced SSD offerings to global PC manufacturers with PM9E1.
