Since the start, WhatsApp has been working on the security and simplicity of the UI to make users comfortable with the application. So to maintain the smoothness, the company hasn’t started ads on the platform. But last month the company finally broke the deadlock and announced the start of promotional ads in channels and status within the application.
The implementation could be the same as the Instagram Stories phenomenon; however, due to the EU rules, the company will not be able to start the advertising until 2026.
WhatsApp ads testing has already started in the beta stage. According to WABetaInfo, there will be some potential changes to the UI of the status and promotion channels. You can check the screenshots here.
More specifically, the status ads pop up in different UIs and are labelled as sponsored content. Like Instagram, you can skip time with a simple swipe. Along with this, the user will also have control to block specific advertisers individually.
Apart from these, there will be new ways of advertising channels where channels can increase their visibility in search by promoting them on search pages. With increased visibility. As earlier mentioned, the changes are currently limited to WhatsApp beta users for now, but once it is fully tested, it will be expanded to public users worldwide.
