Galaxy Z Fold 8 Might Feature Familiar Carbon Fiber Backplate

Samsung is anticipated to debut the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in the second half of 2026, which is expected to be a downgrade as compared to the newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 7.

It’s not been a complete month since Samsung launched the seventh-generation foldable phones, including Galaxy Z Fold 7. Meanwhile, leaks and reports regarding the next-generation Galaxy Z Fold 8 are already starting to blow in the market.

According to a new report from a reliable blog, The Elec, Samsung may go back to using a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) backplate for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Initially, the company introduced the CFRP backplate with the old Galaxy Z Fold 3, and it remained in use until this year.

The newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE have a titanium backplate, which is efficient for greater structural rigidity than materials used in previous models, but now the company seems to be downgrading this build quality for the future Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The reason behind considering this downgrade after it went through to upgrade the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the scarcity of materials. Reportedly, it’s not as easy to obtain titanium from Chinese suppliers as it is to use CFRP, and the supply of titanium may become problematic depending on how the US-China trade dispute unfolds—no pun intended.

However, it is early enough to discuss anything regarding the Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable, at least for now, since the currently launched Galaxy Z Fold 7 is not even available worldwide yet, so there’s no worthy fact to predict anything from now. But it will be interesting to know whether the report will come true.
