Samsung is actively working on expanding its ways in the foldable market to continue its leading legacy; however, now its global foldable phone market share is predicted to fall by about 10 percentage points compared to last year.
Samsung just launched its most advanced and smart foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, yet in the Galaxy family. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is also introduced alongside these devices. The company is still working on its first trifold phone called Galaxy Tri-Fold to debut by the end of this year.
The newly launched foldable devices have already broken the previous pre-order records, hinting at an increase in the foldable market share of the company; however, the new report reveals otherwise, as it is predicted that Samsung Electronics’ global foldable phone market share this year is predicted to fall about 10 percent as compared to 2024.
According to the report from TrendForce, the global shipments of foldable phones during 2025 will reach 19.8 million units, while Samsung Electronics’ market share will fall from 45.2% last year to 35.4% this year.
Reportedly, “Samsung, a leader in the foldable sector, recently released its next-generation flagship model, the Galaxy Z Fold7, and made significant improvements in hinge design, crease visibility, and form factor.” However, its dominance is weakening due to intensifying competition with other brands.
Coming to rival brands, Huawei is predicted to maintain its leading position in the Chinese market and take second place this year with a global market share of 34.3%. Whereas Honor and Lenovo are reported to raise their market share from 6% and 5.5% last year to 9.1% and 7.6% this year respectively.
It’s also analyzed that “Apple’s debut in 2026 will be a turning point that will lead to the popularization of foldable phones and will be an opportunity to inject new vitality into the smartphone industry as a whole.”
