Samsung was allegedly reported to lock the bootloader unlocking on all the Galaxy devices, beginning with One UI 8. Now, the actual reason is finally out!
It’s impressive that Samsung has always focused on improving and enhancing the security of its entire Galaxy ecosystem, and this seems to be getting more improved with One UI 8. Basically, the company is looking forward to removing the ability to unlock the bootloader from all the Galaxy devices.
Specifically, the Galaxy device owners will not be able to unlock the bootloader and install custom ROMs. However, Samsung never provided an exact clarification behind doing the same, but a recent report flashed a few details that suggest that the decision is perhaps made due to European Union (EU) legislation.
According to the report, the newly added law to the Directive 2014/53/EU significantly applies some new cybersecurity needs to all the electronic device manufacturers, where the companies must look up to the fact that the devices they are selling in Europe block the installation of unauthorized software while only running fully authorized and approved ROMs.
At the same time, though, the new directive filed already came into effect, beginning from August 1st, and thus, Samsung’s decision to execute the removal of bootloader unlocking ability last month was possibly due to the requirements of the new compliance of the European Union before the stated deadline.
