Samsung’s upcoming flagship trio, the Galaxy S26 series, is supposed to make its debut during the January Galaxy Unpacked event next year. Indeed, the Galaxy S26 Ultra has been in the headlines due to its camera upgrades; however, the spotlight has now again turned over to its thickness owing to its camera bump.
Since the official-looking renders have already suggested that the Galaxy S26 Ultra is supposed to feature a major design shift, carrying a camera island (base) underneath the rings. However, this is leading to a downgrade in camera design upgrades.
Basically, the camera protrusion of the Galaxy S26 Ultra has now acquired a height of 4.5 mm from 2.7 mm, and this is due to the wider aperture of the main camera and the telephoto lens. However, the changes eventually are leading to an increased thickness of the device, says the tipster, UniverseIce, via X.
On the comparison side, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera protrusion holds a maximum thickness of 2.4 mm, making every design concept fall in place anyway.
At the same time, the tipster further claimed that Samsung could have ensured adopting a bigger telephoto sensor within the same thickness of 7.9 mm, which leaked previously. But the telephoto sensor’s aperture still remains 1/2.52 at 50MP, which certainly makes the S26 Ultra the phone with the smallest telephoto sensor among flagship phones in the global market by 2026.
Well, it looks like Samsung could perhaps be eyeing bringing a bigger camera bump design while also preparing for camera upgrades for its future generation flagships; however, the design with the higher camera bump doesn’t even suit the Ultra’s premium look. Hopefully, Samsung will take certain action on the same.
