Samsung is considering using its old periscope camera sensor for the next two iterations: the Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy S27 Ultra.
Samsung’s Galaxy S-series, especially the Ultra variants, is well-known for its camera, and each year, the company brings new camera upgrades with this flagship model. However, this may not be the case for the next two interactions, as a new report suggests.
Last year, with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung introduced a new 50MP periscope camera with a 5x optical zoom; however, it repeated the same sensor this year for the current Galaxy S25 Ultra. Now, a new report suggests that it will use the same camera sensor for the next two generations, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy S27 Ultra.
A well-known tipster, UniverseIce, shared a text post via its X handle, claiming that it is going to use the same 50MP periscope camera that has a 1/2.52 sensor size, 0.7μm pixel size, and 5x optical zoom for the non-foldable flagship phones it will launch in 2026 and 2027, the Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy S27 Ultra.
It is a great camera, offering higher optical zoom compared to the periscope camera featured on Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro models. The tipster hasn’t mentioned the exact reason behind using the same sensor strategy for future models. Since there’s no official word regarding this strategy yet, it remains to be seen what will happen next.
