Samsung is supposed to launch its first-ever extended reality (XR) headset by the end of this year, and now it seems all set to release soon, as it has unintentionally revealed the device’s official name and features.
The company has already teased its upcoming XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, on several occasions; for instance, it offered a first glimpse of the headset earlier this year at the Galaxy Unpacked event in January 2025 alongside the Galaxy S25 series launch. A few months later, some reports also suggested that Samsung could launch the headset during the July Unpacked 2025 event; however, the report didn’t come true. Now, finally, Samsung recently announced that it will launch it by the end of this year.
Samsung accidentally or intentionally revealed that the Project Moohan headset will be officially named “Galaxy XR” and allows you to take spatial images and videos on your phone to view them on the headset, similar to Apple Vision Pro.
The latest version of the Camera Assistant app (4.0.03) has reportedly revealed that Galaxy XR headsets can capture 3D images and videos, similar to Apple’s Vision Pro headset. You can easily turn on the feature via the Camera Assistant app.
The interesting fact is that currently, the latest Camera Assistant app is only available on the Galaxy S25 FE, but the feature doesn’t actually show up. However, while installing the app on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, a new “3D capture” feature was spotted in the app’s settings. The description explained that the new 3D capture setting adds a button to the top of the camera preview, allowing you to shoot Galaxy XR-compatible spatial photos and videos.
Meanwhile, a reliable tipster, Ice Universe, revealed that shooting a video in 4K 30 fps using the new feature shows up with a “Shot in 3D” label in the Gallery app. It will be interesting to see whether the latest flagship models, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Flip 7 and the Galaxy S25 series, will be compatible with this new feature.
