Samsung is gearing up to introduce a continuous zoom camera system, which is anticipated to arrive on Chinese Android smartphones before Galaxy devices.
A new report from the reliable blog, TheElec, revealed that Samsung Electro-Mechanics is developing a continuous zoom camera system, especially at the request of several Chinese smartphone makers.
In case you missed it, a continuous zoom camera uses a moving lens group to seamlessly adjust its focal length and magnification, providing a seamless range of zoom levels; for instance, the Galaxy S25 has a 3x telephoto camera, which delivers the highest image quality while shooting at 3x; however, the fixed nature of telephoto cameras means Samsung has to use digital zoom and other software techniques for photos at interstitial zoom levels such as 2.5x, 4x, or 10x.
According to the report, initially, Samsung is considering supplying the new continuous zoom to Chinese smartphone manufacturers but will also work to supply it to Samsung Electronics and others in the future. A source told the outlet that the Korean tech giant was preparing to supply the technology to a “specific Chinese smartphone company.”
The statement suggests that Samsung will introduce this feature initially on its rival phones, potentially the upcoming Xiaomi 16 Ultra, as a trusted leaker previously suggested. However, the blog hasn’t revealed any specific details regarding the module’s optical zoom range, but it mentioned the example of a system that offered 3x to 8x zoom.
Samsung is also yet to reveal official details regarding the continuous zoom technology; it will remain to be seen exactly how convenient it will be and which Galaxy device will bring it.
