Samsung usually uses its own chips in Galaxy smartphones; however, this is no longer the case, as the firm has decided to buy more from outside suppliers, especially Micron.
Galaxy Z Flip 7 to Use Micron Memory as Samsung Makes Full Transition
A reliable tipster, @Jukanlosereve, shared a long text post on X, revealing that the mobile division’s reliance on Micron may increase further, as Samsung will now use Micron DRAM entirely for the recently launched Galaxy Z Flip 7, with its own Device Solutions division being out of the supply chain.
A few months back, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 7, powered by its in-house Exynos 2500 chipset. According to a new report, the company is compromising its DRAM sourcing. It’s exclusively sourcing DRAM chips for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, from Device Solution. Whereas, 100% of the LPDDR5X chips required for the Exynos 2500-powered Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be sourced from Micron.
If the report comes true, then it will be the first time that Samsung will use memory chips exclusively from one single vendor for its foldable phone. One of the major reasons behind this is that the Mobile Division’s exclusive use of Micron DRAM for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is tied to heat concerns.
It’s expected that the pairing with Micron’s DRAM would deliver more stability for the Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, it is not the first time, as Samsung has already chosen Micron to give a big share in the DRAM supply for the Galaxy S25 series due to the heat issues with its in-house LPDDR5X chips.
