Samsung receives 12-layer HBM3E order from Nvidia

Samsung cracked the deal with Nvidia, as it has passed the quality test for 12-layer HBM3E memory products and secured the order.

For so long, the Korean tech giant was struggling hard to overcome all the challenges and demands of Nvidia; now, finally, it has reached an agreement with the American chip giant to supply an initial batch of 10,000 units. The deal seems too efficient for Samsung to help the firm boost confidence in the growing HBM market, which it has been struggling to gain a foothold in.

A few months back, it was reported that the Korean tech firm would supply almost 30,000 to 50,000 units of a 12-layer HBM3E chip to Nvidia, which is supposed to integrate them into its water-cooled server systems. However, due to the pending qualification process, the company didn’t receive the order at the time.

According to a new report from a reliable tipster, @Jukanlosreve, Nvidia recently signed a supply agreement with Samsung for 12-layer HBM3E products. For the initial shipment, Nvidia asks Samsung to ship 10,000 units, which is lower than the originally estimated volumes. However, Nvidia may raise the quantity in the future if it is satisfied with performance and stability.

It will remain to be seen exactly how convenient this order will be for Samsung and whether this will strengthen its position in the market. Recently, it was also reported that the company has secured an HBM3E chip supply deal with Broadcom.
