One UI 8.5 Firmware Leak Confirms Samsung Has Begun One UI 9 Work

Samsung has yet to roll out the One UI 8 completely; meanwhile, a new report has already confirmed the One UI 9.0 development on Android 17, which has officially appeared in the source code of the leaked One UI 8.5 firmware.

Currently, the Korean tech giant is working on Android 16-based One UI 8, while the One UI 8.5 leaks and rumors are already blowing in the market. Now, a new report from SamMobile revealed that the company has already started developing the next version of its custom interface, the One UI 9.0, which has officially appeared in the source code of the leaked One UI 8.5 firmware.

However, it’s not that surprising, but this early appearance shows that Samsung is cooking a major upgrade, based on Android 17, promising to go beyond what One UI 8.5 and One UI 8.0 have brought.

According to the reports, Samsung will introduce the One UI 9.0 initially on the new generation Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip devices when they launch and potentially be the first software platform for the triple-folding smartphone that Samsung plans to introduce globally next year. Whereas the Galaxy S26 series is already confirmed to run One UI 8.5 out of the box but will almost certainly be among the first devices to be upgraded to One UI 9.0.

It remains to be seen what new features Samsung will offer with the One UI 9, from AI to other system improvements.
