Samsung is now actively considering involvement in the development of 6G technology, participating in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for standardization, and joining Verizon’s 6G Innovation Forum.
The Korean tech giant has now announced its participation in the Verizon 6G Innovation Forum, a global consortium for the next generation of wireless communications. The aim behind this collaboration is to build a comprehensive ecosystem and accelerate the advancement of 6G wireless communication technologies.
Samsung Electronics is strategizing to actively conduct research for the 6G era, including discovering new user experiences and developing related communication technologies by utilizing AI-powered wireless communication technologies.
The consortium includes multiple firms in the IT and communications technology fields, including Samsung, Meta, Ericsson, Nokia, and Qualcomm. In collaboration, all of these brands aim to build and commercialize 6G, including designing new use cases, devices, and network technologies.
Verizon will play a lead role by setting up dedicated 6G Labs, starting in Los Angeles, where partners can test and refine technologies in a real-world environment.
Regarding this, Vice President Jin-Gook Jeong, head of the Next Generation Communications Research Center at Samsung Research, stated, “Samsung Electronics will work closely with global big tech companies to verify AI and communication network technologies that will lead the future of wireless and bring forward the 6G era that provides innovative user experiences.”
Apart from this, the company is also operating the Next-Generation Communications Research Center under Samsung Research to strengthen research on 6G communication technology and technological cooperation with mobile carriers.
