Samsung’s Galaxy phones are considered the most incredible devices among different Android partners due to One UI customizations on top of Android OS. However, there are a few features that Samsung’s One UI lacks; one of them is the double-tap back gesture, but thankfully, the Galaxy phones are finally getting it too, without downloading a separate app.
The Android ecosystem has presented a double-tap back gesture for quite some time now, letting users double-tap the back of the phone and activate certain apps or functions. Now, it looks like Samsung is also working to integrate this gesture into Galaxy’s One UI natively.
Basically, according to a report presented by Android Authority, when diving into the latest internal One UI 8.5, a new string was found that claims that Samsung is working on a new feature specifically called “double back tap.” This clearly describes that a native double-tap back gesture is perhaps on the way to the Galaxy phones.
At the same time, the hidden codes further highlighted certain key features that will be activated when double-tapping the back of the Galaxy devices, including Flashlight, Notifications, AI Select, Private Display, Quick Settings, Open App, and Screenshots.
Nevertheless, it appears like Samsung’s proprietary double-tap back gesture is finally arriving within the One UI skin. However, currently, this feature requires downloading the Good Lock’s RegiStar app to be activated to access certain functions by performing the gesture. But since the feature has appeared in an internal One UI 8.5 build, it’s possible that the upcoming Android 16-based One UI 8.5 could perhaps bring this feature to Galaxy devices.
Well, One UI 8.5 is currently the new talk of the town! And the leaked features for One UI 8.5 don’t just end here, as leaks are still continuing to circulate. These features include a new launcher shortcut for AI agents, the return of pollen tracking within the Samsung Weather app, an iOS-inspired Settings UI, a fully customizable Quick Panel, the temporary disabling of Auto Blocker, protection from flashing lights, and more.
