Samsung Display confirmed that it is looking forward to introducing 8.6-generation OLED screens and mass-producing them as early as the end of the second quarter or early third quarter of 2026.
A reliable blog, BusinessKorea, revealed that Samsung Display President Lee Chung confirmed that the company is planning to mass-produce the 8.6th generation sometime between Q2 and Q3 2026.
Reportedly, Samsung is all set to invest 4 trillion won to build the world’s first 8.6th-generation OLED line at its Asan plant in South Chungcheong Province, and this is the first time the firm has publicly announced the mass production timeline.
Regarding the ongoing lawsuit concerning Chinese BOE’s infringement of trade secrets, he emphasized fair competition and stated, “The display industry and customers all emphasize fair competition overall,” Lee said, adding, “In this atmosphere, I think we will all participate in fair competition.”
On the rivalry side, the LG Display President Jeong Chul-dong says that the company is keeping the possibility open for investment in 8.6-generation OLED, and “We are reviewing various investments and considering ways to utilize our existing infrastructure,” adding, “It’s fair to say that (the possibility of investment) is open.” He also commented that the TV lines using micro LED or mini LED are still just variants of LCD and can stand strong to compete strongly in image quality with OLED.
It’s expected that this move will be quite convenient for Samsung Display in showing its ambition to maintain its leading legacy in the high-end display field while putting strong pressure on LG Display as well as Chinese rivals.
