Samsung introduced Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE during its summer Galaxy Unpacked proceedings this year. The two folding phones indeed arrived with some exciting features and upgrades; one of them is Google Gemini on the smaller cover screen. Now, guess what! Older Z Flip models finally gain Gemini access on the cover screen.
Basically, until now, Samsung has not provided Google Gemini’s access via the Galaxy Z Flip’s cover screen, while the newer generation Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE have this functionality. Meanwhile, according to a new report by Android Authority, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is finally getting Gemini access on the cover screen.
The report further elaborated that in order to use Gemini on the Galaxy Z Flip’s cover screen, users will be required to speak the activation command, “Hey Google,” or just add the app to the Launcher Widget of Samsung’s Good Lock.
However, pressing and holding the side button still displays “open phone to continue,” which certainly makes the Gemini’s access a little less convenient, which might not be liked by all. But Samsung could perhaps change this section in future updates.
At the same time, almost all the features of Gemini work on the cover display, while also allowing users to use voice or text input for everyday queries and tasks where Gemini Live works, while also providing the ability to share the camera feed. However, the screen sharing feature is the only one that’s missing, but that will be fine for the users.
Well, the team activated Gemini on the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which is running the latest One UI 8 beta version, which seems to be a part of the One UI 8 update, but the activation wasn’t affected by an OTA update and was likely connected either to a server-side change or an update to the Gemini app. In any case, the Gemini access on the cover screen is related to One UI 8, so fans can only get the functionality when they have their Galaxy Z Flip phone running the latest Android 16-based version.
