Samsung and OpenAI are collaborating to accelerate advancement in global AI infrastructure by bringing industry-leading technologies and innovations across advanced semiconductors, data centers, and more.
Samsung Electronics announced in partnership with OpenAI that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (LOI) to establish a well-planned partnership to develop a global AI data center infrastructure and research future technologies.
This new collaboration will strengthen Samsung’s presence in the field of semiconductors, data centers, shipbuilding, cloud services, and maritime technology, promising to take a major step forward for the AI industry.
Reportedly, the Korean tech firm will offer advanced DRAM semiconductor solutions to meet a potential demand of up to 900,000 DRAM wafers per month, using its full semiconductor capabilities, such as memory, logic, and foundry, for AI training and inference.
Samsung SDS will work with OpenAI to design, build, and operate Stargate AI data centers and will also offer consulting, implementation, and management services for businesses that want to integrate OpenAI AI models. This will be convenient for the Korean tech firm to become an OpenAI service distribution partner in Korea, supporting local businesses to access ChatGPT Enterprise.
One of the key aims behind this collaboration is that Samsung is considering making Korea one of the top three countries in AI globally and expanding business opportunities in this field. It remains to be seen exactly how efficient this partnership will be for both firms.
