Samsung to enhance AOD animation with One UI 8.5

Samsung’s next software iteration, the One UI 8.5, is supposed to bring several major upgrades, including a subtle new animation to Always on Display.

Currently, Samsung is actively busy extending the Android 16-based One UI 8 update to eligible Galaxy devices. Meanwhile, under the hood, it is already starting to work on the next software version, One UI 8.5, which is expected to be a major iteration compared to One UI 8.

Samsung is expected to introduce One UI 8.5 next year on the Galaxy S26 models, but leaks and reports have already revealed almost all the upgrades, changes, and tweaks this update will bring to enhance the One UI ecosystem.

Now, a video is surfacing on X, shared by a well-known tipster, @UniverseIce, showcasing the AOD animation improvements coming with One UI 8.5. The video shows that when you double-tap on the always-on display (AOD) lock screen while the phone is locked to wake the phone up, the animation showing that the phone is now active starts exactly from the point where you tapped on the display.

Vice versa, while double-tapping on the screen to put the phone to sleep, the video shows the animation showing that the phone is now inactive and ends at the exact point where you tapped on the screen. Although it’s not a major upgrade, it’s a great improvement in detail, which Galaxy users will appreciate. It remains to be seen whether this AOD animation enhancement will come into existence.
