Samsung has shifted the Galaxy S21 FE from a monthly to quarterly update frequency; meanwhile, the fan edition model is getting its last major One UI update of its lifetime!
Indeed, Samsung is moving rapidly with the latest One UI 8 update rollout, and now, the Galaxy S21 FE has also joined the list. Samsung is delivering an Android 16-based version, which is important for the device, as it’s receiving its major OS update.
Essentially, the Galaxy S21 FE is eligible for the One UI 8 update, whereas its elder siblings, the Galaxy S21 series, are not. The device was launched in January 2022 with Android 12, and has already received three major OS updates so far; while according to its software update policy that Samsung promised, this latest software will be its last major OS update.
Meanwhile, specifically, the latest Android 16-based One UI 8 firmware for the Galaxy S21 FE has been identified with the G990EXXUIHYJ2 version number and is currently available in Thailand. Therefore, users can download the latest version via Settings >> Software update >> Download and install. Noticeably, it’s obvious that the update will not reach all the users at once, so users need to wait for a while.
Well, One UI 8 runs Android 16 on top and is designed with various tools that take the entire user experience to the next level. The update brings new UI elements with vibrant colors, improved widgets, and optimized layouts. At the same time, the update further adds upgrades to productivity, security & privacy, and accessibility, alongside bringing new changes to Samsung Internet, Quick Share, and other apps.
Other than that, the update is packed with the September 2025 Security patch, which improves the device’s overall security, core functionality, and performance, while also protecting the device against potential threats to provide a secure, stable, and smooth user experience.
