Samsung Galaxy users, get ready to experience a new feature called EyeDropper, which allows you to get a color code directly from any point on the screen, maybe with One UI 9.
Currently, Samsung is actively rolling out the Android 16-based One UI 8 update to all the eligible Galaxy devices; meanwhile, it has already started testing the One UI 8.5 software version, which will be introduced with the Galaxy S26 series.
On the other side, Google started working on the next Android 17 OS update, under which it is testing a new feature called EyeDropper. It’s highly anticipated that Samsung’s One UI 9 will be based on Android 17.
One of our reliable colleagues, Android Authority, revealed that it has discovered the EyeDropper feature in the Android 25.10 Canary beta. According to the report, the app allows other apps to access color through a new API, eliminating the need for developers to create their own tools.
Reportedly, when an app calls the Intent “ android.intent.action.OPEN_EYE_DROPPER ,” the system instantly takes a screenshot of the current screen, and will display a magnifying glass for the user to select a pixel, and then sends the color code back to the original app.
Since the EyeDropper has only been discovered in the testing phase, experts suggest that it will officially launch with Android 17 next year. If it happens, then Samsung could also adopt this with One UI 9 based on Android 17. However, there’s no official announcement regarding this tool yet, so it remains to be seen whether it will come into existence.
