Samsung, despite being a leading brand in the foldable market, ranked fifth in the Chinese foldable segment during the third quarter of this year.
In early Q3 2025, Samsung launched its latest foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Transparently, right after the launch, several researchers and data analysts revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has shone in many foldable markets. Samsung also revealed that these newly launched foldable phones have set a new sales benchmark.
However, despite the success of the newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung ranked fifth in the Chinese foldable market, which means that the device has flopped in this major smartphone market.
A report from IDC revealed that China flagged a significant rebound in the foldable segment during Q3 2025, as the sales of this form factor have reached 2.63 million units, a year-on-year increase of 17.8 percent.
Huawei secured the first position with nearly 70% market share, Honor (11.2%), vivo (5.0%), and OPPO are in second, third, and fourth position, respectively, in China. While Samsung ranked fifth with 4.3% market share, which seems to be its feat in the Chinese foldable market.
These metrics suggest that Samsung has to replan its strategies for the Chinese market in the foldable segment to regain its leading position. It will be interesting to see whether the Q4 2025 results will come in Samsung’s favor.
