Samsung collabs with SK Telecom to strengthen core 6G technologies based on AI-RAN

Samsung is collaborating with SK Telecom to strengthen its position in the 6G era by introducing the core 6G technologies based on AI-RAN.

Samsung Electronics announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SK Telecom to develop core 6G technologies, with a key focus on AI-based radio access network technology (AI-RAN).

Samsung announced via its official newsroom that its Research wing and Network Technology Office of SKT will lead the collaboration. Mutually, both of these firms agreed to build and test a few essential technologies for the 6G era, under the MoU, which are as follows –

The companies are also partnering as members of the AI-RAN Alliance, as they mutually proposed an AI-based channel estimation technology. AI-RAN schedulers and AI-based core networks will be efficient in determining when, where, and how to send data. While SK Telecom will direct the provision of data and the setup of the test infrastructure based on its nationwide network operations.

Regarding this, JinGuk Jeong, Executive Vice President and Head of Advanced Communications Research Center (ACRC), Samsung Research at Samsung Electronics, stated, “Through field-focused collaboration with SKT, we will be able to verify the effectiveness of AI-based wireless technologies in real-world settings and secure key AI-RAN technologies at an early stage,” and added, “We hope that continued collaboration between our companies will help pave the way for the rollout of 6G.”
