Samsung recently opened the One UI 8.5 beta program for the Galaxy S25 series; meanwhile, a new report hints that the One UI 9 (Android 17) could bring one of the most-awaited App Lock features to Galaxy devices globally.
Currently, Samsung is looking forward to releasing the Android 16-based One UI 8.5 software version. It has already rolled out the first beta update for the Galaxy S25 series in selected regions, including the US, UK, Korea, and Germany, and will soon expand it to more eligible countries and Galaxy devices.
Meanwhile, a new report from one of our reliable colleagues, Android Authority, revealed that Google is working on a native App Lock feature to bring with the upcoming Android 17, which will let you lock apps directly from the system without requiring any third-party apps.
A few previous reports have also suggested that Samsung is working on bringing the App Lock feature to its Galaxy devices with future updates. According to the new report, a few codes regarding this feature have been spotted in the test version of Android 17.
Currently, Google doesn’t offer a simple way to lock applications on Android, as it offers a private space, but putting an app in it can’t appear on the home screen and requires extra steps to open, which consumes time. However, this will no longer be the case, as Android 17 is expected to bring a new App Lock, which Samsung could adopt with One UI 9.
