Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Could Debut With 5G Support

Samsung may not be primarily a smartwatch company, but the Korean tech giant consistently refreshes its wearable lineup each year. In 2026, one of the most anticipated additions is the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, a premium model that promises several notable upgrades over its predecessor.

The biggest headline feature is 5G connectivity. Unlike the original Galaxy Watch Ultra, which was limited to 4G/LTE with no Bluetooth-only variant, the Ultra 2 is expected to be the first Samsung smartwatch to support proprietary 5G. While streaming video on a tiny wrist display is hardly a compelling use case, faster data transmission could bring practical benefits. Most notably, improved connectivity may contribute to better battery efficiency, which has long been a pain point for smartwatch users.

The chip powering this upgrade is also worth noting. Samsung recently announced a collaboration with Qualcomm to co-develop the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, a purpose-built smartwatch CPU that integrates a 5G modem. Although Samsung has not officially confirmed this chip will feature in the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, all available signs point in that direction. If accurate, this partnership could mark a significant step forward in smartwatch performance.

As for timing, consumers will likely need to wait until summer 2026 for an official reveal. Samsung is widely expected to unveil the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 alongside its next generation of foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8, continuing the brand’s tradition of bundled hardware announcements.

Pricing remains unknown for now, but given the premium positioning of the original Ultra, buyers should probably prepare for a high-end price tag.
