The Calamity picks up moments after Part 3 left off, with Yhwach having absorbed the Soul King and Squad Zero’s Bankai in ruins. Ichibe Hyosube sends Ichigo and his allies to protect what’s left of the Soul King, only for Yhwach’s deception to force Ichigo’s hand. What follows reshapes the Royal Palace into the Wandenreich-controlled Wahr Welt and sets up the final confrontation the entire arc has been building toward.

The season runs 13 episodes and adapts the closing stretch of Tite Kubo’s manga, chapters 664 through 686. It’s the final chapter of the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, and by most accounts, the final chapter of the Bleach anime as fans have known it since 2004.

What This Means for Bleach Fans

This is genuinely the end of the road for Ichigo’s story as Kubo originally wrote it. Part 4 wraps the manga’s mainline plot, and Studio Pierrot has confirmed the returning core team is back for the finish: chief director Tomohisa Taguchi, cour director Hikaru Murata, and composer Shiro Sagisu, who’s scored every cour of the revival since 2022.

The returning cast includes Masakazu Morita as Ichigo Kurosaki, Noriaki Sugiyama as Uryu Ishida, Yuki Matsuoka as Orihime Inoue, and Hiroki Yasumoto as Yasutora “Chad” Sado. All four appeared at the Jump Festa panel where the season’s title, The Calamity, was first confirmed.

If you already caught the theatrical run, you’ve technically seen this before. Viz Media and Fathom Entertainment screened a compilation of the first three episodes, God of Thunder, Son of Darkness, and Blood for My Bone, in North American theaters from June 25 through June 29. Japan got its own one-day advance screening on June 21. Today’s Hulu and Disney+ premiere is the first time those episodes are available to stream, alongside whatever comes after them.

Based on the pattern from the last three cours, expect a new episode every Saturday at 7:30 a.m. PT through the finale, which Pierrot has teased as an extended, hour-long episode. Anime original scenes are likely throughout the run since Kubo has been directly involved in expanding the manga’s compressed ending for the screen.
