Crimson Moon Launches Across PS5, Xbox, and PC
The Crimson Moon game is officially out. ProbablyMonsters’ gothic action-RPG released simultaneously worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 1, 2026, at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT. Players step into the role of a Nephilim, a half-human, half-angel hybrid, tasked with reclaiming the demon-besieged city of Gildenarch.
Worth clarifying up front: Crimson Moon is not the same game as Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss’s separate open-world action RPG. The two share a similar name and genre space but are entirely unrelated projects from different studios.
Crimson Moon – What We Know
Crimson Moon builds its combat around souls-inspired melee encounters against demons, undead, vampires, and Hellgrowth abominations, structured as replayable missions called hunts across the city’s individual Wards. There are no traditional character classes. Instead, a Nephilim’s build comes together through weapons, armor, trinkets, Weapon Arts, Boons, and a chosen Angel, with loadouts capped at four armor pieces, two trinkets, a one-handed weapon and shield, and a two-handed weapon.
The game supports both solo play and two-player online co-op, with ProbablyMonsters designing encounters to scale depending on whether you’re going in alone or bringing a partner. Selectable difficulty and higher rewards for harder missions give the structure some flexibility beyond a fixed difficulty curve.
The game launched with two editions: a $19.99 Standard Edition and a $29.99 Deluxe Edition that adds the Ceremonial Armor Set, the Axe of the Gods weapon cosmetic, and entitlement to a future post-launch content expansion. PlayStation players additionally receive the Sonai Magistrate Armor Set at launch with either edition, and PS5 Pro owners get enhanced PSSR support for sharper visuals. No physical release has been announced, with launch focused entirely on digital storefronts, including Steam and the Epic Games Store on PC.
One standout detail is the soundtrack. Musicians HEALTH, Jared Dines, Misha Mansoor, and Ricky Armellino composed original metal tracks for the game’s three world bosses and final fight, working alongside lead composer Chris Wilson and music manager Steve Pardo. Full English audio is included, with text and subtitles also available in French, Italian, German, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese.
What This Means for Action-RPG Fans
A day-one release spanning PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store simultaneously is a notably wide launch spread for a game from a mid-sized studio, and it suggests ProbablyMonsters is treating this release as a broad-audience bet rather than a platform-exclusive one. Pairing that reach with a sub-$20 entry price for the Standard Edition also positions it as a relatively low-risk purchase for players curious about a souls-inspired RPG without committing to a full $60-70 price tag.
The replayable hunt structure and flexible buildcrafting system, rather than fixed classes, gives the game room to differentiate itself in a genre that’s grown crowded with soulslike releases throughout 2026. The metal soundtrack collaboration also stands out as a distinctive hook, tying recognizable names in the metal scene directly to specific boss encounters rather than treating music as background atmosphere.
What’s Next
With launch now complete, the near-term focus shifts to post-launch support. Deluxe Edition owners are already entitled to a future content expansion, though ProbablyMonsters hasn’t detailed what that expansion includes or when it might arrive. Expect early player and critic reactions to shape the conversation around the game over the coming days and weeks.
