The Blood of Dawnwalker Is Here: Story, Systems, and What the Launch Means
The Blood of Dawnwalker is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It is the first game from Rebel Wolves, the Warsaw studio founded by former The Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
The pitch is simple and grim. You play Coen, a young man from the fictional Carpathian valley of Vale Sangora in the mid-14th century. The Black Death is tearing through the land. Human lords answer plague with slaughter. Into that collapse step the Vrakhiri — this world’s vampires — led by Brencis. They offer a cure in vampire blood. The price is fealty, monthly blood tithes, and a new feudal order built on hunger.
Coen’s turning goes wrong. Silver in his blood, from years in the mines, interrupts the ritual. Instead of becoming a thrall, he becomes a Dawnwalker: human by day, vampire by night. His family is taken. He has 30 in-game days to tear through Brencis’s court and get them back.
That clock is the game’s spine. Time does not drift on its own, but quests, travel, and major actions consume time segments. Day and night are not just lighting. They are two kits, two social rules, and two ways to solve the same problem.
Human by day, monster by night
In daylight, Coen walks among people as a man. He uses witchcraft taught by the witch Anca, including the ability to speak with the dead. He can gather information without immediately terrifying a village.
At night, vampiric power returns: wall-walking, greater mobility, and lethal tools that make the map feel smaller. So does Blood Hunger. Delay feeding and control slips. The same power that lets you raid a cathedral can also turn a conversation into a disaster.
Drinking the blood of the three vassals — Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe — unlocks signature abilities such as Scarlet Shield, Shadowstorm, and Blood Surge. Raising Corruption unlocks more of the kit. The design keeps asking the same question the story asks: how much of yourself will you spend to finish the job?
A court, not a checklist
The campaign is built around Brencis’s court. After the prologue, a web of Court Activities lets you anger each lieutenant. Push a region far enough and you earn the duel. Beat all three and Brencis comes into the open.
The vampires are not cartoon demons. Vampire blood really does blunt the plague. Tithes are framed as order. Brencis wants a system, not a pile of corpses. That grey morality is the Witcher DNA people expected from this team, and early reviews have praised the writing even when they have been cooler on combat polish and open-world density.
A full run is estimated at 50 to 70 hours, with four difficulty levels and heavy branching. Quests can fail. NPCs can die. The game supports a large number of manual saves for a reason.
Who made it, and how it plays
Rebel Wolves built the game in Unreal Engine 5. Key credits include designer Daniel Sadowski, art director Bartłomiej Gaweł, and writers Jakub Szamałek and Ariana Siarkiewicz. Combat is a third-person action-RPG mix the studio has described as adaptive: you can lean on assisted flow or take tighter control.
Standard edition is priced around $70. There is an Eclipse digital bundle with soundtrack, world compendium, and comic, plus physical Day One and collector options in some regions.
Rebel Wolves has already said this is the first chapter of a larger saga. Later games are meant to stay in the same universe but leave the medieval valley, with self-contained stories rather than cliffhangers.
For players who wanted a dark, choice-heavy RPG with a distinct vampire myth — needle-fangs that grow with age, a turning ritual that plants a fang like a seed, hybrids born from a failed rite — The Blood of Dawnwalker is the one that just arrived.
FAQs
When does The Blood of Dawnwalker release, and on which platforms?
It launched on September 3, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC.
What is a Dawnwalker?
A Dawnwalker is a rare hybrid. Coen is human in sunlight and a vampire after dark. The condition comes from a disrupted turning — in his case, silver already in his blood.
How does the 30-day timer work?
You have 30 in-game days to rescue Coen’s family. Time advances in segments when you complete activities, not as a constant real-time countdown. How you spend day versus night changes both power and story outcomes.
Who are the main villains?
Brencis rules Vale Sangora. His three vassals — Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe — each control a region. Raising their anger through Court Activities leads to boss fights and unique blood abilities.
How long is the game, and is it single-player only?
One playthrough is roughly 50–70 hours. It is a single-player action RPG with branching quests, multiple approaches, and strong replay value if you chase different choices.
