SSS-Class Revival Hunter Anime Confirmed for January 2027, Streaming on Crunchyroll

The Korean tower-climbing webtoon — also known in fan circles as SSS-Class Suicide Hunter — is getting a TV anime at STUDIO fu, with a teaser visual, trailer, and lead cast revealed.

The official website and social accounts for SSS-Class Revival Hunter launched on September 9, 2026, confirming that the Korean web novel and webtoon will receive a television anime adaptation in January 2027. Crunchyroll will stream the series across most of its territories when it premieres.

A teaser trailer and key visual dropped with the announcement. The art shows bottom-ranked hunter Kim Gongja looking up at a glowing skill card, with the spectral Sword Emperor standing behind him — a snapshot of the partnership that drives the story.

Where to watch SSS-Class Revival Hunter

Crunchyroll will stream the anime in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, the Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore. The announcement excludes much of East Asia, where local licensors typically handle simulcasts separately.

No exact episode-one air date, episode count, or Japanese broadcast network has been named beyond the January 2027 window. The official site is sss-revival.com.

Staff and cast

Hiroaki Sakurai (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, The Demon Girl Next Door) is directing at STUDIO fu (In the Clear Moonlit Dusk). Sayuri Oba (Romantic Killer) is writing the scripts. Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Overlord, Bullet/Bullet) is designing the characters. Production company HAYATE is producing.

The first two Japanese roles are locked:

• Takeo Otsuka (Oshi no Ko’s Aqua) as Kim Gongja
• Satoshi Hino (Demon Slayer’s Kyojuro Rengoku) as the Sword Emperor

What the story is about

A mysterious tower filled with monsters draws Hunters chasing fame and fortune. Kim Gongja is an F-rank Hunter with no skills worth mentioning. He spends his days watching the Flame Emperor, the Tower’s top hunter, and wishing he could stand on that same stage.

His opening arrives when he pairs with the Sword Emperor and inherits a rare S-rank skill. The catch is the entire premise: the skill only activates when Gongja dies. Death copies the killer’s ability, then the clock rewinds — and Gongja has to climb with a power that costs him his life every time he uses it.

Writer Sinnoa published the original web novel in 2018. Artist Bill K and adapter Neida launched the KakaoPage webtoon on December 31, 2020. The comic has more than 150 episodes across four seasons and is on a season break before Season 5.

English readers will see two titles for the same series. SSS-Class Revival Hunter is the official Tapas and Ize Press / Yen Press title, and the name the anime is using in English. SSS-Class Suicide Hunter is the older fan-translation title that still turns up on Reddit, MyAnimeList synonym lists, and recommendation threads. Korean title: SSS급 죽어야 사는 헌터. Japanese anime title: 死して生きるSSS級ハンター.

Tapas carries the official English digital release. Ize Press has been issuing print volumes since October 2024.

Why the adaptation matters

Tower-climbing fantasies have a clear track record on Crunchyroll after Solo Leveling and similar hits. SSS-Class Revival Hunter is in that lane, but the death-copy-and-reset mechanic is more tactical than raw power fantasy. Each major arc is built around Gongja engineering a specific death so he can steal a specific skill — then living with the political fallout when the Tower notices abilities he should not have.

Sakurai’s comedy-and-character background is an unusual pairing for a grim-sounding premise. The source material leans on Gongja’s sarcastic inner monologue as much as on fights, so the series will need that voice as much as it needs action direction from STUDIO fu.

Episode count, additional cast, an opening theme, and a precise premiere week have not been announced. The next official drops are expected on the Japanese account @SSShunter_anime and at sss-revival.com.
