Naughty Dog Confirms Two New The Last of Us Projects, Intergalactic Reveal Coming in 2027

Naughty Dog closed out this year’s Last of Us Day with a significant announcement: two new The Last of Us projects are now in early development, both set to expand the franchise’s story beyond Part I and Part II.

Studio head Neil Druckmann shared the update in a blog post over the weekend, capping off a celebration that ran from September 26 through September 28 with a charity stream and fan giveaways.

What Druckmann Confirmed

“Since Grounded II, we’ve talked about the possibility of telling more stories in the world of The Last of Us,” Druckmann wrote. “We believe these stories are worth telling.” Both projects remain in early stages, and Naughty Dog isn’t sharing further details yet, including whether they’re games, other media, or some combination.

The confirmation matters less for what it reveals and more for what it settles. The Last of Us wrapping up after two mainline entries has been an open question since Part II released, and Druckmann’s statement makes clear the studio sees a future for the franchise, even if specifics are still under wraps.

Actor Troy Baker, who also has a role in Intergalactic, teased the newer material earlier this month at Ottawa Comiccon, telling the audience simply, “You are not ready. It’s so good,” without elaborating on what he’d seen.

Intergalactic Gets a 2027 Reveal Window

Druckmann also addressed Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog’s original sci-fi project first announced in 2024. The studio has stayed quiet on the game since, including a notable absence from the most recent State of Play, and Druckmann confirmed that silence continues through the rest of 2026.

A full reveal, with official footage and comprehensive details, is now planned for 2027. Druckmann described the internal mood around the project as charged, calling it Naughty Dog’s most ambitious title to date, and asked fans for patience while the team finishes shaping the game. No release window has been set, and the story follows a new protagonist, Jordan, on what Naughty Dog calls a wild sci-fi adventure across a new universe.

Where the Franchise Stands Elsewhere

The Last of Us continues to expand outside games too. Season 3 of HBO’s television adaptation is in production, with more of the games’ voice actors recently confirmed to join the show’s cast.
