Yuri!!! on Ice 10th Anniversary Screening Set for October 19

Yuri!!! on Ice is heading back to theaters. Crunchyroll announced Monday that a 10th anniversary screening will run for one night only on October 19, part of the company’s monthly Anime Nights program, with tickets now on sale.

The showing will present the anime’s first five episodes and is scheduled to play in the United States and Canada.

What the Screening Includes

MAPPA’s original sports anime debuted in October 2016, and this event marks its most substantial theatrical presence since the series first aired. Written and directed by Sayo Yamamoto, the show follows 23-year-old figure skater Yuri Katsuki after a devastating defeat at the Grand Prix Final, and his career-reviving partnership with five-time world champion Victor Nikiforov.

Despite running just 12 episodes, Yuri!!! on Ice built a passionate following outside Japan, particularly among fans of boys’ love storytelling, and drew praise for its portrayal of anxiety alongside its figure skating drama. The 10th anniversary screening gives longtime fans a rare chance to revisit those first five episodes on the big screen, and a possible entry point for newcomers who’ve only heard about the series secondhand.

The anniversary activity comes after a rough stretch for the franchise. MAPPA officially canceled Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence in April 2024, ending years of uncertainty around the sequel film first announced in 2017. The October screening and winter exhibition don’t confirm a new season or a replacement project, but they represent the most anime-related activity the franchise has seen in years.
