Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis Shuts Down in 3 Days, Here’s What’s Left to Do
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis has three days left. Square Enix’s gacha RPG, which compiled the entire Final Fantasy VII saga into a single mobile and PC experience, officially ends service on October 6, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. PDT, closing out just over three years since its September 2023 debut.
The shutdown was first announced back in July, but with the cutoff now days away, here’s where things stand and what’s still worth doing before the servers go dark.
Why Ever Crisis Is Shutting Down
Producer Shoichi Ichikawa gave an unusually candid explanation for the closure rather than the vague corporate language typical of mobile game shutdowns. According to Ichikawa, Ever Crisis simply became too expensive to maintain at the visual standard fans expected from a Final Fantasy VII property, a cost the team couldn’t sustain going forward.
Ever Crisis launched on iOS and Android in September 2023, with a Steam version following that December. It retold the full Final Fantasy VII story, including material from the wider Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, while weaving in an original narrative following a young Sephiroth.
The Final Content Roadmap
Square Enix didn’t let the game coast to its end quietly. Throughout July and August, the team finally rolled out Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-, a long-requested adaptation of the mobile-exclusive prequel story, split into three episodic parts. The final chapter of the core Final Fantasy VII saga arrived September 6, timed to the game’s third anniversary, complete with final weapon upgrades and seasonal quests.
In the weeks leading up to shutdown, Square Enix brought back past event campaigns, Guild Battles, and a “Festival of Gratitude” to give players one last chance to experience content they may have missed.
What Happens to Your Progress
In-app purchases have already stopped. Any premium currency players had on hand remains usable until the servers close, but Square Enix has confirmed refunds for unused paid currency are limited to players in Taiwan, leaving most of the global player base without compensation for leftover balances.
No offline version or archive has been announced. Once the shutdown completes, the game becomes permanently inaccessible, and Square Enix says account data will be deleted once the associated procedures wrap up. For players who followed Glenn and the Before Crisis story for years, there’s currently no way to revisit that content after October 6.
Ever Crisis isn’t the only Final Fantasy VII mobile spin-off to meet this fate. Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, a separate battle royale spin-off, shut down in January 2023 after a similarly short run.
