Tank Chair Anime Premieres, Bringing Polygon Pictures’ Violent Rehabilitation Thriller to TV
Tank Chair began airing October 4, bringing Manabu Yashiro’s brutal action manga to television for the first time. Polygon Pictures, the studio behind Knights of Sidonia, handles the animation, pairing the manga’s dark premise with the studio’s signature high-end CG work.
The series follows Nagi Taira, a once-unstoppable assassin left comatose after taking a bullet meant for his younger sister, and the violent “rehabilitation” that follows as she fights to wake him back up.
The Story’s Dark Premise
Nagi falls into a coma protecting his sister, Shizuka, from gunfire, and the only thing that can rouse him, even briefly, is exposure to overwhelming murderous intent. Believing that intensity is the key to fully waking her brother, Shizuka straps him into the tank chair of the title and takes him into brutal fights against genetically enhanced gangs on Guicheng Island, described in Kodansha’s own summary as the most dangerous town in the universe.
It’s an unusual hook even by action-manga standards, framing combat as a form of medical treatment rather than a straightforward power fantasy, and it’s part of what’s driven the source manga past 1 million copies in print since it began serialization in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius.
Staff, Cast, and Theme Songs
Tadahiro Yoshihira and Hiroaki Ando are co-directing at Polygon Pictures, with Yoshihira also handling series composition and co-writing scripts alongside Ando. Yoshihira previously worked on Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars, while Ando’s credits include Kaina of the Great Snow Sea and Ajin: Demi-Human.
Yuki Moriyama, known for character work on Blame!, designed the cast, and composer Masaru Yokoyama, whose credits include Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans and Mashle: Magic and Muscles, scored the series.
SiM performs the opening theme, “DALALA,” while Daoko handles the ending theme, “SYNC.” Cast confirmations include Yurina Amami as Dr. Radio and Gen Sato as Uzu, with Megumi Ogata joining more recently as the pink-haired character known as Sensei.
Where the Manga Stands
Kodansha USA Publishing currently licenses Tank Chair for English-language release, giving Western readers a way to catch up on the source material ahead of or alongside the anime’s weekly episodes. The project was first announced back in March 2026, with Bandai Namco Filmworks revealing the teaser visual and promotional video that kicked off the rollout toward this month’s premiere.
An official Discord community, TANK CHAIR FANCLUB, has also launched alongside the show, hosting giveaways and exclusive content tied to the series. For more on what else is airing this season, our Fall 2026 anime schedule covers the rest of October’s biggest premieres.
