Star Wars: Galactic Racer Launches, Marking the Franchise’s First Racing Game Since 2002
Star Wars: Galactic Racer launched October 6, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, bringing the franchise back to the racing genre for the first time since Star Wars Racer Revenge in 2002.
Developed by Fuse Games, a studio founded by former Burnout developers, and published by Secret Mode alongside Lucasfilm Games, it’s also notable for what it isn’t: the first major new Star Wars game in recent memory not published by Electronic Arts, which held the franchise’s gaming license for nearly a decade.
A Revenge Story Set After Return of the Jedi
Galactic Racer is set after the Empire’s fall, centered on the Galactic League, an unsanctioned racing circuit operating in the Outer Rim. League founder Darius Pax recruits a mysterious racer named Shade, who carries a personal grudge against the Bool family, to dethrone reigning champion Kestar Bool.
The campaign uses a roguelite structure built around procedurally generated content, a deliberate choice meant to give races and track layouts more variety across repeated playthroughs rather than relying on a fixed set of circuits. Around 150 people worked on the game, built in Unreal Engine 5, with Lucasfilm Games involved in creative decisions from the earliest stages of development, according to director Matt Webster.
Beyond the single-player campaign, the game includes an Arcade mode for quick races and a Scenario mode covering time trials and objective-based challenges, alongside cross-platform multiplayer supporting up to 12 players. Vehicles become increasingly customizable as players progress, and the game brings back a familiar face from the films: Sebulba, the podracer villain from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, appears alongside new racers like Shade and Kestar Bool.
How It’s Being Received
Early review scores have landed strong, with the game sitting at 88 on Metacritic at launch, putting it well ahead of most licensed racing spin-offs in recent memory. Composer Gordy Haab, known for his extensive work scoring other Star Wars games, provides the soundtrack.
Where to Play It
Beyond standard retail purchase on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, Amazon confirmed Galactic Racer is also available at no extra cost through Amazon Luna for Prime members in eligible regions, giving subscribers a way to stream the full campaign, Arcade, and Scenario modes without buying a separate copy. Players who’d rather own the game outright can still purchase it directly through any of its other storefronts.
