Enshrouded 1.0 Launches Today, Leaving Early Access After Nearly Three Years
Enshrouded’s full 1.0 release goes live today, October 15, 2026, marking the end of an early access period that began back in January 2024. Keen Games’ survival RPG launches on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5, with PS5 Pro support included, while the Xbox Series X|S version remains delayed until spring 2027.
The global rollout follows Keen Games’ own launch map, with the game going live at 15:00 UTC, which works out to 8:00 a.m. PT, 11:00 a.m. ET, and 4:00 p.m. BST, depending on your region.
What 1.0 Actually Changes
The headline addition is a large new floating island area, supported by stone pylons and connected by platforms, expanding Embervale’s map beyond what early access players have explored so far. Combat has also been reworked, with expanded enemy types and improved AI meant to make fights feel sharper and less predictable.
Keen Games has also focused heavily on Adventure Sharing, the game’s building and world-sharing toolset, rolling out an updated Sparkworks logic system that lets players wire together inputs like pulleys and triggers to build more complex contraptions. Onboarding has been reworked too, aimed at making the game more approachable for players unfamiliar with the survival genre, something Keen Games has said was a goal from the project’s earliest design stages back in 2023.
On PC, Enshrouded supports up to 16 players in a single world. Crossplay between PC and PS5 isn’t available at launch, with Keen Games confirming it’s planned for a later patch rather than day one.
Why Xbox Players Are Still Waiting
Keen Games CEO Jan Jockel has said the extra time for the Xbox Series X|S version comes down to meeting the studio’s own performance expectations on that hardware, rather than any licensing or certification holdup. No specific date within spring 2027 has been confirmed yet.
It’s a notable gap for a game that’s already built a sizable audience elsewhere. Enshrouded crossed 5 million players by January 2026, a number that’s only grown since, making the console rollout a significant piece of unfinished business for Keen Games even as the PC and PS5 versions move into their full release today.
A Longer Road Than Usual
Enshrouded first entered Steam Early Access on January 24, 2024, after Keen Games announced the game back in May 2023. That’s nearly three years from initial reveal to full release, a longer early access cycle than many survival games in the current market, though Keen Games has framed the extra time as necessary to deliver a complete launch rather than rushing 1.0 out the door.
The studio has also said it plans to keep adding content for years after today’s release, treating 1.0 as a foundation rather than a finish line. A collaboration with collectible maker Youtooz, bringing physical figures of Embervale characters to life, launched earlier this month as part of the pre-launch buildup.
