Thief: The Dark Project Remastered Launches December 3 With New Tarnished Mirror Campaign

Thief: The Dark Project Remastered is officially launching on December 3, bringing the classic stealth adventure to modern platforms alongside an entirely new campaign titled The Tarnished Mirror. Nightdive Studios, Eidos-Montréal, and Atari have also opened physical pre-orders, including a special collector’s edition inspired by the original game’s distinctive trapezoid-shaped packaging.

The remaster includes the original 1998 game alongside the missions, content, and updates from Thief Gold. Powered by Nightdive’s KEX Engine, the release also supports player-created mods, including Thief: The Black Parade.

One of the biggest additions is The Tarnished Mirror, a new story campaign created by the team behind The Black Parade and set between Thief: The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age.

The Tarnished Mirror Campaign Adds a New Story

The Tarnished Mirror introduces a self-contained adventure that expands the original Thief universe.

The story begins with what appears to be a straightforward theft but quickly develops into a journey involving imprisonment, uneasy alliances, and a mysterious drowned necropolis inspired by Lovecraftian horror.

The campaign introduces new factions, environments, and enemies while maintaining the atmosphere and identity of the original games.

The collaboration is particularly notable because it brings community-created work into the official Thief canon. Its larger-scale levels aim to offer returning players a fresh experience without abandoning the series’ established stealth-focused identity.
