Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 eSIM Support: USA Locked & Unlocked Variants
The June 2022 security patch overhauls both the locked and carrier unlocked variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, finally equipping the device with the eSIM functionality.
The firmware builds are separately labelled, F916USQU2HVF1 for the carrier-locked variants and F916U1UEU2HVF4 for the unlocked models.
Following are the changes that this update brings: Inbuilt hardware functionality activation; For both devices.
eSIM- Users need a carrier’s app or a QR Code to use this function. The “eSIM” is an embedded SIM card with no physical SIM cards; no physical swapping is required. eSIM is available from selected carriers worldwide. AT&T, T-Mobile USA, and Verizon Wireless support eSIM functionality for the US.
Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) support- This enables the user to choose which of those two SIMs can place and receive calls while another is on standby.
Dual-SIM: Users can install two separate SIM cards into their phones.
Security & Privacy Improvements: For both Variants.
The security of the devices has been improved.
Other than this, according to the Changelog, the Overall stability of the devices has been improved with this patch; it also includes security and privacy issues fix but is not limited to it; it can also include general bug fixes and device stability improvements and improves overall system stability.
How To Update;
This functionality is already available in some other regions of the world since 2020 and is now finally in the USA after a long wait. Also, we know this series will enjoy major updates for OS and UI as per Samsung’s 4-Year Software Update Policy.
Users can also check for the latest software update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install or turning auto-updates or notifications in your device’s settings.
