A ceremony will be held marking the first shipment of 3nm chips at its manufacturing facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.

The latest development is expected to increase competition in the race to develop advanced chipsets in the global foundry market.

After starting mass production about a month ago, next week, Samsung Electronics Co. will introduce the first 3 nanometers (nm) chipset based on the Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistor architecture. On July 25, the chipmaker plans to hold a ceremony marking the first shipment of 3nm chips at its manufacturing facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. According to industry and government sources, this Tuesday.

The Importance of CerePresence Of Several VIPs;

Several officials will attend the ceremony, including Lee Chang-yang, Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy of Korea, and Kyung Kye-Hyun, President and CEO of Samsung’s Device Solutions Division. The Korean government also supports the domestic chip industry as Minister Lee was present at the ceremony.

The company claims that Samsung’s first-generation 3nm process node uses GAA transistor architecture that can increase performance by 23% while reducing power consumption up to 5%. Mass production of the second-generation 3-nanometer GAA chips is expected to begin early next year. These chips are expected to improve performance and save up to 50% power.

Samsung’s Future Plans For Foundry Business:

The introduction of the 3nm process node is an important achievement for Samsung, which entered the chip foundry field nearly 18 years ago. The latest development is expected to increase competition in the race to develop advanced chipsets in the global foundry market, which TSMC is currently leading. In the second half of 2022, TSMC intends to start mass production of 3nm chips, and in 2025 it plans to start mass production of 2nm chips.

Its planned resolution and technology advancements could put it ahead of its competitors in the field, namely Intel from the US and TSMC from Taiwan.

For the Texas foundry investment, Samsung outlined a timetable. A $17 billion microprocessor chip factory in Texas. In addition, it should be noted that Samsung recently committed to invest $356 billion in the chip, biotech, and IT industries over the next five years, 80% of which will be used for facilities and infrastructure R&D. The future of technology seems to be affected because of this & Samsung wants to be the forerunner in this regard.
