The South Korean manufacturer Samsung has taken the software support policy way too far and has become the best update provider in the Android world. It provides a total of four major OS updates to many of its flagship and mid-range devices launched after the year 2021. Because the Galaxy S20 series was launched before 2021, it is lined up to get three major OS updates only, which means this Android 13 update is the final and last major OS update for this series.

Galaxy S20’s Android Updates

The company launched the Galaxy S20 series on February 11th, 2020. It was launched in the market with Android 10 with a layer of One UI 2.0 on top of it. One UI 2.1, the newer customized skin of that period, was also rolled-out to the Galaxy S20 series devices first, as it was the latest flagship back then. Afterward, the respective series continuously got the update of Android 11 with One UI 3.0, Android 12 with One UI 4.0, and now Android 13 with the latest One UI 5.0 update too

Looking at Samsung’s update policy, Samsung provides four major OS updates to its select flagships and mid-range phones launched after 2021. The devices launched before the year 2021, as the Galaxy S20 series do, are lined up to get only three major OS updates. Besides, coming to security patch updates, the South Korean firm provides monthly, quarterly, and biannual firmware updates along with security patches to Galaxy devices on the basis of their category.

Coming back to the Galaxy S20 series, the Android 13 is the last major OS update for all three Vanilla, Plus, and Ultra devices of this series (including the FE model). However, the device will continue to get security patch updates from the company, but the update category may change by the time from monthly to quarterly and then biannual. Currently, the series is decided to get monthly firmware and security patches and other updates, excluding the major OS updates only.
