Earlier today, Samsung distributed the latest security update to its Galaxy S22 series devices in the US; the update was available for the unlocked variant of the devices. Now the December 2022 security patch is rolling out on Verizon’s network.

Those who own Galaxy S22 devices affiliated with Verizon will be able to install the latest software update on their devices; the update carries different firmware version numbers for each of the devices, such as S901USQU2BVL1, S906USQU2BVL1 and S908USQU2BVL1 for Galaxy S22 general, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra respectively.

As per the information, the device is listed in the category of monthly updates, so it is eligible for regular monthly updates, which means it will receive a dozen of security updates per year.

Currently, the Galaxy S22 device is receiving the December 2022 security. Usually, the security updates mainly come with fixes which resolve previously reported issues. Still, after the major Android OS update, sometimes the security updates come with some other stability issues other than security-related issues.

December 2022 Security Patch Fixed These Vulnerabilities:

According to the Samsung documentation, the latest patches include the fix to as many as 93 vulnerabilities, 67 of them common to (almost) all Android devices. Of the long list, 5 vulnerabilities are defined as critical, 63 high priority, and 12 moderate. Most of these vulnerabilities affect Galaxy smartphones and tablets with Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12, but some also touch the latest version of the robot. Among the latter, one concerns the RCS system, which would allow malicious actors to access the phone number of an incoming call. It also required action on the vulnerability that would allow access to the contents of the toast notifications of the Personal Area through the Nice Catch app (it is part of the Good Lock package).
