Samsung Galaxy S23 series miss out the satellite connectivity

Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S23, has made headlines for its impressive specs and sleek design. As with the previous generation, the Korean giant has introduced significant innovations, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. However, many have wondered why Samsung has not included satellite connectivity for emergencies, as Apple has done with its new iPhones.

Why did Samsung decide to skip out on the Satellite Connectivity feature?

In an interview with CNET, TM Roh, head of Samsung’s Mobile Experience division, stated that the Korean giant is aware of how highly people value and need such technology and that the company will soon incorporate it into its devices.

However, as TM Roh is prone to argue, there are currently too many restrictions on this technology for it to be put to commercial use.

Satellite communication will be included in the features offered by Samsung Galaxy series smartphones, at least in high-end models, when the progress Samsung anticipates is made.

Remember that Qualcomm has also dedicated itself to this technology, creating Snapdragon Satellite, a solution that is based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This is in addition to Apple, which has introduced satellite connectivity for emergencies in the iPhone 14 in the United States and some European countries. 

And many are wondering why Samsung has not taken advantage of Qualcomm’s solution to start equipping its new flagship smartphones with satellite connectivity support, then committing to improving functionality in the future.

The popular chipmaker Qualcomm, in fact, revealed that smartphones could not obtain such capabilities with an OTA update but must be developed in a unique way to enable it. This may have been one of the explanations given by Qualcomm at the time of the debut of the Snapdragon Satellite.
