Samsung’s two premium Foldable devices are here, which is the Galaxy Z Fold series that was introduced at the Unpacked event. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 was released in early 2022 last year, whereas the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has been launched recently. Wondering which foldable device is better and worth buying, so here is a detailed comparison between the two foldable devices.

Galaxy Z Fold 5 Vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4:

Design:  

The design of both foldable devices resembles each other. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes with a 6.1 x 2.64 x .53in resolution when you folded the device and a 6.1 x 5.11 x .24in resolution when you Unfolded the device and has a weight of 252g. Whereas talking about the resolutions of the Galaxy Z Fold 4, it has a 155.1 x 130.1 x 6.3 mm resolution when you unfold/open the device and a 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm resolution when you fold/close the device. It weighs 263g. The previous Z Fold 5 version is lighter in weight as compared to the last one.

Display:

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 features a 7.6-inch (19.34 cm), QXGA+ (2176 x 1812), 2X Dynamic AMOLED internal display with a refresh rate of about 120Hz, and 6.2 inches (15.74 cm), 2316 x 904 (HD+),2X Dynamic AMOLED external display with the refresh rate of about 120Hz. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a 7.6 inches 2X dynamic AMOLED HDR10+ internal display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a 6.2 inches 2X dynamic AMOLED external display. Through the comparison, it’s clear that both devices have the same display features.

Software

Both the foldable devices run on the same Android skin, which is One UI. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is equipped with the latest One UI 5.1.1, which is based on the Android 13 operating system. Galaxy Fold 5 will receive four years of major OS updates with five years of Security patch updates. On the other hand, Galaxy Z fold 4 runs on the Android 12L, which can be upgradable to Android 13 and One UI 5.1 version. It also received four years of major Android OS updates with five years of security patch updates. So, seeing the comparison, we can say that in terms of operating systems, Galaxy Fold 5 is better as it has an enhanced and updated Android and One UI version.

Performance

Now talking about the performance, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is equipped with Qualcomm’s fastest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor; it is available with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB internal storage variants. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (4 nm) processor; it is available in the 12GB RAM with internal storage variants of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. So it can be noticed that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will give better performance than the Galaxy Z Fold 4 because of the enhanced processor.

Battery life:

Battery life which is the main function of foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 features 4400mAh battery life with 25W wired fast charging along with fast wireless charging; it can last up to an average of more than 7 hours while watching videos or surfing through the internet. It can be fully charged in about 1 hour and 23 mins. It can charge 50% of your device in just 25 mins. Whereas the Galaxy Z Fold consists of a 4400mAh battery life, with the  25W wired, 50% in 30 min with 15W wireless, along with 4.5W reverse wireless. In terms of battery, both are the same.

Camera

Coming to the camera, the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s main camera has a triple camera setup with 50MP (f/1.8) primary lens, a 12MP ultra-wide angle (f/2.2) lens, and a 10MP (f/2.4) telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom along with 10 MP (f/2.2) cover and 4MP under display selfie camera. Where the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s main camera also has a triple camera setup with 50 MP( f/1.8) 23mm (wide) primary lens,  Dual Pixel 10 MP(f/2.4) 66mm (telephoto) lens, and 3x optical zoom 12 MP (f/2.2) 12mm (ultrawide) lens along with the 4MP under display and 10MP (f/2.2) cover camera.

Final Verdict:

So if you want to experience better performance with the lighter weight then Galaxy Z Fold 5 could be the perfect upgrade for you. On the other hand, if you don’t get much attracted by the new abilities of the new fold device then you can stay on your Galaxy Z Fold 4 device for some more time as it has currently eligible to receive three more major updates up to One UI based on Android 16 and also proper security updates till year 2026.
