Carrier-locked Galaxy A53 5G getting August 2023 update in the US

After distributing the August 2023 update to several flagship devices, US carriers are now expanding the update to mid-range smartphones, like the Galaxy A53, which is now receiving the new update.

Notably, the new update for the Galaxy A53 is now rolling out for the carrier-locked variant; the update is now available on four carriers, including Dish Wireless, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, and Xfinity Mobile. It is worth noticing that the unlocked variant of the device has already received the update.

Users who are using the Galaxy A53 5G device, which is affiliated with Xfinity Mobile, can identify the latest update by the firmware version number A536USQS7CWGA, while on other carriers, the device is grabbing the same update with a different version number, A536USQS7CWG9.

The August 2023 update doesn’t bring any innovation to the device, but it does bring some improvements to its security. According to the official documentation, the update will address over 80 security vulnerabilities and enhance the security mechanisms of Galaxy devices.


The Galaxy A53 5G was launched in 2022. It comes with Android 12. Later, the device received a major update in the form of Android 13. Samsung has promised to release at least four major updates and some minor updates every five years. So devices will be eligible to get new updates until 2027.
