Samsung’s mid-range Exynos 1480 chip to feature AMD GPU

Samsung is now focused on developing their own processors for powering up their Galaxy smartphones. Exynos 2400 was the first one to be launched this year, and its performance was quite good compared to its previous ones. The Galaxy S24 series is expected to equip the Exynos 2400 processor; however, other than the Exynos 2400, Samsung will also release the successor to the Exynos 1380, the Exynos 1480 processor, which has been observed using an AMD Xclipse 530 GPU. Just like every time the chip was spotted on the online benchmark.

An image of the Exynos 1480 processor, which is anticipated to be included and rumored to have been tested in the Galaxy A55 smartphone, has surfaced on Geekbench. The Exynos 1480 processor with the model number S5E8845 has been evaluated in the database, achieving a single score of 882 and a multi-core score of 2808 points. The integration of an AMD GPU comes as a surprise because there were talks that Samsung wouldn’t be going back to AMD and would instead use its own developed GPU. However, the benchmark listing proves these statements false.

Maybe the firm intends to use AMD GPUs, at least in its affordable range of smartphones. The listing reveals that the chipset features an Xclipse 530 GPU and eight cores, four of which clicked at 2.75 GHz and the other four at 2.05 GHz. Furthermore, as per the listing, the chipset has an integrated Xclipse 530 GPU, Android 14 on it, and 8 GB of RAM.

AMD GPUs and their connection to the Xclipse architecture:

Samsung calls its GPUs that are built on AMD’s graphics architecture Xclipse. Looking back, the Xclipse 920 made its debut alongside the Exynos 2200, and the Xclipse 940 is set for the Exynos 2400, most likely next year. So it is obvious that the Xcilpse 9xx range is for flagships and the Xcilpse 5xx for mid-rangers. Coming to Xclipse 530, which will be utilizing outdated architecture and RDNA 2 architecture. This is the same as Xclipse 920, but Xclipse 940 will be built on AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture. We can analyze them comparatively; however, specifications being unknown makes it impossible. The possibility of ray tracing being supported is also a big question.
