Verizon Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 FE get December 2023 security update in the USA

Samsung has rolled out the December 2023 security patch to several Galaxy devices, but due to carrier limitations, there are several units of popular devices, including the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 FE, that didn’t receive the update. However, gradually, some carriers, like Verizon, have started serving the update to these devices.

According to the information, the Verizon-affiliated Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra are receiving the update with firmware version numbers G991USQS9FWL1, G996USQS9FWL1, and G998USQS9FWL1, respectively. The Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy S21 FE (2022) are getting a new update with the firmware version number. G990USQS9FWL3 and G990U2SQS7FWL3, respectively.

According to the official changelog, the latest update for the Galaxy S21 is not related to any major updates, so you should not expect any new features or innovations with it, but it is one of the security updates that will enhance the protection mechanism of your device.

Going into details, it comes with more than 60 fixes. There are 50 fixes added by Google and 16 fixes by Samsung, which make sure that its users get complete protection. In simple words, the company has tried to eradicate all the loopholes and reduce the possibility of cyberattacks. The update may also contain some more enhancements that improve the overall performance of the devices.

If you are also using the locked variant of Galaxy S21 series devices, you can now update it by following these simple steps: First, go to the system settings and then touch the software update menu. Here,  tap on the download and install option and wait until it finishes searching. If it shows a new update available, then tap on the download button.
