Samsung was among the first big names in the list of smartphone manufacturers that have started offering wireless charging standards in their high-end flagships. Beginning with the 5W charging support, the company took the speed to 15W. Recently, a report suggests that Samsung’s upcoming PMIC chip will help in redefining the future of wireless charging, making it faster than ever!
With Qi being the best-known standard for wireless charging, Samsung LSI has recently joined hands with the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), who is the developer of the Qi charging standard, where Samsung is aiming to actively work on implementing the next generation wireless charging mechanism, the Qi 2.2, into its Galaxy models.
Samsung’s upcoming S2MIW06: A Flexible, High-Power, and Efficient Wireless Charging PMIC
Samsung LSI (chip and semiconductor team) is shaping an all-new structure of a wireless charging system, named S2MIW06, which is a wireless charging PMIC (power management integrated chip) that will significantly help in system controlling via wireless power transfer and in-band communication.
Alternatively, the key factor of most perfectly suitable wireless charging is a powerful firmware-based microcontroller unit (MCU) operation that certainly supports compatibility. While the latest S2MIW06 has already passed all the compatibility tests, this chip will pioneer consistent performance within a wide range of circumstances, leading to flexibility and huge built-in memory capacity.
Simultaneously, another key factor of wireless charging is charging power, with the S2MIW06 chip having already covered this aspect. This chip can support high-power wireless charging of up to 50W, thus making this newest innovation future-proofed. This ensures that it will push faster wireless charging to great heights. Also, the S2MIW06 has already passed the pre-testing for Qi certification.
With this being the case, using its innovative technical aspect, Samsung will be leading from the front in offering the latest, seamless, and more efficient charging technology to its Galaxy audience. Since the next-gen Galaxy S25 series is already confirmed to support Qi2 wireless charging, it will be interesting to see how Samsung will implement changes in the technology.
