Samsung and Google to Launch Eclipsa Audio, Open-source Spatial Audio Format

Samsung has already announced that it is planning to implement Eclipsa Audio with its new smart TVs coming this year and soundbars. Now Google shared new details regarding the same technology; let’s take a closer look.

Google, via its official blog, unveiled that it is collaborating with Samsung on Eclipsa Audio, an open-source spatial audio format. This technology will offer an immersive audio experience over traditional stereo sound and will enhance the audio quality of Samsung’s latest smart TVs and soundbars.

This new technology is accessible and adaptable for broader use and will deliver a more advanced audio experience. The Eclipsa Audio is based on Google’s audio format, ‘the Immersive Audio Model and Formats (IAMF),’ Samsung, and other leading companies within the Alliance for Open Media (AOM) and released under the royalty-free AOM license.

Samsung and Google are both gearing up to introduce a certification and licensing program to ensure quality for Eclipsa Audio-compatible products. Noticeably, it is free of cost so that anyone can create Eclipsa Audio files and allows content creators to upload Eclipsa Audio songs to YouTube.

Reportedly, the new audio format is compatible with changing the way we experience sound today, and it remains to be seen exactly how it will be exploited to create innovative audio experiences.
